EngineAI's SE01 claimed a significant breakthrough as the first humanoid robot to achieve natural human-like gait, unveiled on October 24, 2024, and debuting on CCTV's New Year's Gala. Standing 170 cm tall and weighing approximately 55 kg, the SE01 features 32 degrees of freedom with self-developed harmonic, planetary, and ball-screw joint modules.
The SE01's natural gait breakthrough comes from an end-to-end neural network solution combining reinforcement learning and imitation learning for motion control. Mechanical systems include 186 N·m peak knee torque, dual encoders, cross-roller bearings, and forced-air cooling at critical joints. The aerospace-grade aluminum alloy frame extends the robot's design life to 10 years.
Dual processors from NVIDIA and Intel power three sets of high-precision stereo cameras forming an advanced visual neural network. The sensor suite integrates Intel RealSense RGB-D depth cameras, multi-microphone arrays, and LiDAR for 360-degree perception ('Engine Sense'). Quick-swap 10,000 mAh battery packs enable efficient field operation.
Priced aggressively at $20,000-$30,000 in both commercial and educational versions, SE01 became available for global sales on December 24, 2024. Founded by Zhao Tongyang after leading XPENG's humanoid program (PX5), EngineAI secured nearly 100 million yuan in angel funding and targets production and sales of over 1,000 units by 2025. The SE01 debuted alongside the SA01 and PM01 at CES 2025.
