About Figure 02

Figure 02 represents a major milestone in commercial humanoid robotics, becoming one of the first humanoid robots to achieve meaningful deployment in real-world manufacturing. Developed by Figure AI, a company founded in 2022 and backed by OpenAI, Microsoft, and NVIDIA, Figure 02 has been deployed at BMW's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina.

Standing 168 cm tall and weighing 70 kg, Figure 02 boasts three times the processing power of its predecessor. The robot features fourth-generation hands with 16 degrees of freedom, enabling precise manipulation tasks. Its sensor suite includes 6 cameras, built-in speakers and microphones for human interaction, and a high-performance battery with 50% more capacity than Figure 01.

The BMW deployment demonstrated Figure 02's capability in real production environments. Over an 11-month pilot program, the robots ran 10-hour shifts five days a week, accumulating 1,250 hours of runtime. They loaded more than 90,000 sheet metal parts with 5-millimeter precision in 2-second cycles, contributing to the production of over 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles. This represents one of the most successful humanoid robot deployments in automotive manufacturing to date.

Figure 02's AI capabilities are particularly notable. Developed in partnership with OpenAI, the robot features embodied AI that enables speech-to-speech communication, obstacle avoidance, and autonomous task and path planning. The system can translate natural language commands into physical actions, allowing more intuitive human-robot interaction than traditional programming approaches.
