Hexagon's AEON represents a significant entry into humanoid robotics from the Swedish industrial technology giant, unveiled at Hexagon LIVE Global 2025. Developed in partnership with NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Maxon, AEON targets industrial applications with a focus on precision that leverages Hexagon's measurement and metrology expertise.
Standing 165 cm tall and weighing 60 kg, AEON moves at 8.6 km/h and carries 15 kg payloads. The robot's 34 degrees of freedom and five-fingered hands enable dexterous manipulation, while over 22 sensors, including RGB, depth, LiDAR, and force sensing, build centimeter-accurate digital twins. The multimodal sensor fusion achieves sub-millimeter accuracy in inspection and reality capture tasks.
Inside, NVIDIA Jetson Orin runs motion planning, spatial AI, and edge LLM reasoning entirely on-board, with an upcoming IGX Thor module adding certified functional safety. Microsoft Azure enables scalable development and on-demand training. Maxon's next-generation actuators power efficient locomotion. A hot-swappable lithium battery provides four-hour shifts with quick swap capability for round-the-clock operation.
AEON humanoids are scheduled for release in early 2026 at approximately $150,000 per unit for early adopters. Pilot programs with Schaeffler and Pilatus cover manipulation, machine tending, part inspection, and reality capture. Hexagon's established relationships across automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing provide deployment channels that pure robotics companies must build from scratch. The industrial giant bets that its precision measurement heritage positions AEON uniquely for tasks where accuracy matters as much as capability.
