About Steve

Steve is a unique 'character robot' created by Belgian designer Jan De Coster and the media company Brightfish. Unlike functional industrial humanoids, Steve was designed in 2013-2014 as an artistic exploration of human-robot interaction and storytelling.

Standing a towering 210 cm tall and weighing 140 kg, Steve has a minimalist, non-threatening aesthetic designed to evoke curiosity. It features dual arms and a wheeled base capable of 8 km/h movement. The robot is programmed with carefully choreographed gestures to serve as a public-facing figure at events, capable of greeting guests and delivering messages.

Steve represents a distinct branch of social robotics focused on personality, emotional resonance, and the 'theatrical' aspect of robots in human spaces, prioritizing connection over utilitarian labor.
