NEO from 1X Technologies represents a fundamentally different approach to humanoid robotics-one designed specifically for home environments rather than industrial settings. The Norwegian-American company, backed by OpenAI and Samsung, has created a robot that prioritizes safety, quiet operation, and natural interaction over raw industrial capability.

Standing 167 cm tall and weighing just 30 kg, NEO features a soft, bio-inspired anatomy that sets it apart from rigid industrial humanoids. Custom 3D lattice polymer structures throughout its body provide both protection for humans during physical interaction and comfort during operation in home environments. At 22 dB, NEO operates more quietly than most household appliances.

Despite its gentle design, NEO demonstrates impressive physical capability. The robot can lift over 150 pounds and carry 55 pounds-more than sufficient for household tasks like moving furniture, carrying groceries, or assisting with physical labor. Its hands feature 22 degrees of freedom, providing human-level dexterity for manipulation tasks.

1X opened pre-orders for NEO in October 2025, with units priced at $20,000 for early adopters or available through a $499/month subscription model. The company plans US market availability in 2026 and international expansion in 2027. An agreement with EQT will see up to 10,000 NEO units deployed to industrial applications between 2026 and 2030, demonstrating the platform's versatility beyond home use.
