About Ameca

Ameca from Engineered Arts represents a fundamentally different approach to humanoid robotics: prioritizing realistic human expression and social interaction over physical work capability. The UK-based company's creation has become famous for facial expressions so lifelike they cross the uncanny valley from the positive side.

Standing 187 cm tall, Ameca features an unprecedented 27 degrees of freedom in its face alone, enabling extraordinarily lifelike expressions. Articulated motorized arms, fingers, neck, and facial features create a complete communication package. Each eye contains an 8-megapixel camera aligned with the pupil center, enabling genuine eye contact when tracking faces.

Ameca's sensor suite includes embedded microphones, binocular eye cameras, a chest-mounted Stereolabs ZED 2 for depth perception and wide-angle vision, binaural microphones for directional sound localization, LiDAR, IMU, force/torque sensors, and joint encoders. This comprehensive perception enables natural interaction with multiple people simultaneously.

Powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 and Engineered Arts' proprietary Tritium 3 operating system, Ameca understands speech through natural language processing and recognizes faces and emotions for appropriate social responses. The deliberate aesthetic, hyper-realistic face paired with obviously robotic body and solves the uncanny valley challenge through "mechanical transparency." At ICRA 2025, Generation 3 Ameca debuted with walking prototypes alongside "Ami," a desktop variant, marking the platform's evolution from stationary to mobile.
