About GR-2

The GR-2 from Fourier represents a significant upgrade over the company's first-generation humanoid, unveiled in September 2024 with enhanced capabilities across the board. Standing 175 cm tall and weighing 63 kg, the GR-2 features 53 degrees of freedom. A substantial increase from the GR-1's 40.

The robot's actuators have been upgraded to FSA 2.0, producing peak torques exceeding 380 Nm for enhanced agility and dynamic capability. A new dual-encoder system doubles control accuracy, ensuring precise movements even in demanding situations. The torque is sufficient to lift patients into wheelchairs, move furniture, and operate industrial tools.

GR-2's hands represent a major advancement with 12 degrees of freedom, double the dexterity of previous models. The fingers include six array-type tactile sensors that sense force and can identify object shapes and materials, mirroring the flexibility of human physiology. A detachable battery with twice the capacity of its predecessor provides up to two hours of runtime.

In 2024, Fourier split into two units: Fourier for general-purpose robotics and Fourier Rehab for rehabilitation-specific innovations. This structure allows the company to pursue both industrial applications and its core healthcare market. The GR-2's combination of strength, dexterity, and sensing makes it particularly suited for elderly care, patient assistance, and therapeutic applications where gentle, controlled interaction with humans is essential.
